  • population - 6 million
  • GDP - 6.5 billion dollars in 2008
  • The economy is still in the process of recovery after the long civil war. The agricultural sector had undergone considerable changes due to the extensive land reforms of the Sandinista government in the eighties.
  • main exports are : bananas, coffee, meat , cotton and sugar.
  • Foreign companies have established maquilladora ( assembly ) plants for production of apparels, footwear , jewellery etc for exports.

Nicaragua authorises its Honorary Consulate in Mumbai to issue visas

This is unusual. Normally Honorary Consulates are not auhorised. Bu the Nicaragauan government has made an exception to Mumbai consulate since 2008.
